I wrote this song at the request of our ward's Handcart Trek director in June of 2001. A week or so after being asked, I was looking at a print by Clark Kelley Price entitled "When the Angels Come" while I read the account of Francis Webster. As I read "I've pulled my cart when I was so weak . . . ." the song started to come to me in couplets with tune.
I first sang it at a fireside gathering for the Roy 18th Ward while we were camped at Ranch 66, one of the campgrounds where the Martin's Cove missionaries live. I went on my first trek up into Martin's cove the next day. I've been back to sing it at Martin's Cove many times since then. I've been to the Rock Creek hollow to sing, also.
I've done trekking kick-off firesides for different wards and stakes. I've also done culmination firesides for returning trekking groups at This is the Place Monument, parks, and Stake Houses from St. George Utah to Kemmerer Wyoming.
Clark Kelley Price has given me permission to use his When The Angels Come painting as my jewel case art, as long as the proceeds from the sale of that song are used for the financing of my children's missions.
Information about obtaining prints of this and other Clark Kelley Price paintings can be found at Repartee Gallery.
If you don't buy my cds, at least consider buying his prints.
